Ted Working

Estes' Saddlery uses Wickett and Craig (W & C) leather out of Pennsylvania on a normal basis. I can, and have built saddles using Hermann Oak leather as well with very good results, too. I had been reading, and hearing, a lot about Siegel Leather of California lately, and thought I'd give it a try. This leather is as good as anything out there in my opinion. Of all the great qualities of Siegel Leather, its tooling properties are amazing- it tools like butter when properly cased. Also, Siegel Leather has a very good "feel" to it with a lot of body. Since Siegel costs a little less than the other leathers, I would of course pass this on to a customer. Siegel can be purchased in "extra heavy, " which is what I normally use for a working saddle. I wanted to pass along this information to any potential customers. If there's no preference, I usually stick with Wickett and Craig or Hermann Oak. They're 100 percent American steerhides, and it's tanned here in America, too, for whatever that's worth.
